The Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo will remain open to the community until June 2021 with a staged closure commencing from July 2020.

Getting Here

The Powerhouse Museum is located at 500 Harris St, Ultimo and is close to Darling Harbour, Chinatown, Central Station (Sydney Terminal), Broadway bus station (Railway Square), and Exhibition Centre Sydney Light Rail Station.

The Goods Line provides an accessible pedestrian route from Central Station, past the iconic Dr Chau Chak Wing Building designed by Frank Gehry. The Goods Line is a 500m walk along flat terrain starting from the Devonshire Street Tunnel at Central Station’s Southern Concourse. The 501 bus stops directly outside the Museum.

There is limited metered street parking near the museum, located on Harris St, Macarthur St and adjacent streets.

Discounted parking

Powerhouse Museum has discounted parking options with the following providers:

Wilson Parking (adjacent to Novotel Sydney Central), 179 Thomas Street, Haymarket

Note: Discount does not apply to the nearby Wilson Parking station at 187 Thomas Street.

Discounted $15 all day parking is available for Powerhouse Museum visitors. To obtain the discount, your parking ticket must be validated at the designated machines located at the level 1 and 3 admission counters before returning to the car park.

Shop Hours

The MAAS Store can be visited without paying entry to the Museum.

Open daily 10am to 4.30pm
(except Christmas Day).

Profits from MAAS Store sales go towards the purchase of new objects and the conservation of existing ones.

Food and Cafés

The MAAS Cafe on Level 3, next to the entrance, is the perfect start or end to your day at the Powerhouse Museum.

Open for breakfast from 7.30am until 5.00pm every day, the MAAS cafe provides a relaxing environment to sit with a coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy a burger or petite cake.

Operated by Create Consultants, a young dynamic group of hospitality specialists bringing life and a fresh new approach to the Museum’s catering choice.

With an appetite for excitement and innovation and a real passion for great service and quality food, you can be assured of finding something you will enjoy. What is on the menu one day is different to the next. It is alive with flavour and choice. A range of offers for the whole family.

We aim to provide venues, exhibitions, programs and services which can be enjoyed by all visitors, including those with disabilities.

Companion Card

MAAS is an affiliate of the NSW Government’s Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care’s Companion Card program. This means that carers who accompany a person with a disability will be eligible for free entry on presentation of their Companion Card. Visit the Companion Card website for more information.


You can access all the main levels of the Powerhouse Museum via ramps and an elevator. For visitors using manual wheelchairs, the elevator is recommended. Groups of visitors with more than one person in a wheelchair can access an additional elevator with supervision by booking in advance on +61 (02) 9217 0222.

Wheelchairs can be borrowed at no charge from the cloaking desk in the main entrance foyer.

Toilets designed for disabled access are provided in each of the toilet blocks. There are toilets on levels 1, 2 and 4 and in the Courtyard.
