About

In 2011, the Federal Government, through the Australian Research Council (ARC), awarded a significant grant over three years for the Zagora Archaeological Project that involves the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens (AAIA), the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sydney and the Athens Archaeological Society.

This has enabled a return to Zagora for archaeological excavations for four to six weeks in October/November in 2012, and potentially in 2013 and 2014 – marking some forty years since the original Australian excavations in the late 1960s / early 70s.

This website documents the archaeological survey season and provides contextual educational material related to archaeology, history and Zagora.
