In September 2004 the Powerhouse Museum announced Queensland engineer James Bradfield Moody as the inaugural recipient of the Powerhouse Wizard award.
Well known in his role as a panellist on ABC TV’s The New Inventors, James Bradfield Moody has already established a highly successful career that has seen him travel around the world to champion his passions, from business and sustainability to space, technology and innovation.
James, an engineer with a PhD from the National Graduate School of Management, is passionate about the supporting role that young socially conscious businesspeople can play in society. Sustainability, indigenous issues and space are also among his areas of interest.
James is currently working as the Director of Divisional Business Strategy, CSIRO Land and Water.
During his term as Powerhouse Wizard, James participated in a range of programs including:
- Keynote speaker presentation at the Science Teachers’ Association of NSW and Powerhouse Museum, 2nd Annual K-8 Science & Technology Conference: Investigating Energy – Future Challenges
- Panel member for Sydney Design 05 'Hypothetical Sydney' event - Would Sydney take a Guggenheim to its heart? " – the hypothetical questioned current and future urban planning. Other panel members included: The Lord Mayor of Parramatta, David Borger; developer, Linda Gregoriou; Landcom CEO, Sean O’Toole; SMH architecture columnist, Dr Elizabeth Farrelly.
- Host of Sydney Design 05 secondary student study day discussing sustainability in design with Sydney designers: Henri Spaile, Associate Design Director, BlueSky Creative; Claudia Bonifer, Design Manager, Design Resource; and Andy Wana, a design graduate working with Konstrukt Design.
James also contributed a column for the Winter 05 issue of Powerline, the magazine of the Powerhouse Museum, and participated in the judging of the 2005 and 2006 Powerhouse Wizard awards.
