Join Dr. Soyeon Yi as she vividly recounts her experiences as the first Korean astronaut, from her selection in 2006, to her flight to the International Space Station in April 2008. With degrees in mechanical engineering and a PhD in bio and brain engineering, Dr. Yi was selected as one of the two finalist Korean Astronaut candidates in December 2006. She underwent general space flight training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Russia and on April 8, 2008, was launched on board Soyuz TMA-12 to the International Space Station. After almost 11 days in space, she returned to Earth, along with International Space Station crew members Peggy Whitson and Yuri Malenchenko, aboard Soyuz TMA-11.

In this fascinating presentation, Dr Yi will share a first hand account of the background that led her to spaceflight, her astronaut training in Russia and her experiences on her space mission.
