Maths vs. swine flu
How does mathematical modelling help us to stop the spread of diseases? Dr David Wilson and his team will guide you through the modelling of the spread of disease epidemics, using the HIV/AIDS epidemic in African countries as an example.
Life underground
Associate Professor Ian Anderson will have you using microscopes, tests and sampling to experiment with the little known but vital world of life in the soil.
Never mind the snakes
Beware of the plants! In this workshop you will investigate the many deadly tricks plants use to protect against their enemies. Dr Angela Moles and Dr Stephen Bonser will have you experimenting with plant chemical defences.
It's a chemical world
Dr Peter Rutledge and friends will walk you through some experiments in modern chemistry. By the end of the workshop you will have investigated a range of hands-on experiments.
From magnets to the stars
How do astronomers create those amazing pictures of galaxies far, far away? Experiment with the use of light, radio waves and X-rays to view the universe and create your own multi-wavelength astronomical picture.
It's a cyber world
Explore the latest in computer science with Dr Steffan Williams.
It's all in your mind
Researchers from the Brain and Mind Research Institute will have you experimenting with the way you think and see, and how we know what is real and what is imaginary.
Electric water
This workshop will involve working fuel cells, hydrolysis and an investigation of the actions of catalysts in making this technology efficient enough for everyday use. Participants will split water molecules then recombine them in a workshop to investigate fuel cell technologies.
