A new sound and light experience brings the Powerhouse Museum’s Transport Gallery to life

Further, faster, higher: a sound and light experience transforms the Museum’s iconic Transport Gallery into a living environment and brings to life some of the Museum’s most popular vehicles and aircraft.

Standing in the gallery, visitors will be surrounded by large screen projections of images and voices as well as lighting and sound effects.

If you feel a little queasy after watching Maurice Guillaux do a loop-the-loop in his Blériot XI monoplane, or somewhat shaken by Donald Mackay’s jolting ride around Australia in 1900 on his trusty Dux bicycle, then perhaps Dick Smith’s flight across the Tasman in his Rozière balloon Australian Geographic Flyer will be more calming.

These episodes and more are linked by the voice of famous aviatrix, Nancy Bird Walton, and will screen hourly throughout the day.

In between shows the gallery is transformed into a ‘living environment’ with suspended aircraft appearing to fly through clouds in a blue sky. Intermittently, the gallery comes briefly to life and visitors can hear the horse-drawn tram clip-clopping by, crowds bustling on the station to catch the steam train, or the Bugatti racing car circling the gallery.

The short but exhilarating show will provide a fascinating journey through time for Powerhouse visitors of all ages.
