It has been great being able to follow your progress along the wall....it is truely an awe-inspiring achievement! We look forward to having you share more stories/details and a full slide show of all your photos on your return! Any guess as to when that might be?? ;)

What is the traffic like on the roads? One hears about the terrible traffic in Beijing and larger cities, but not further afield.

How many Chinese words/ characters did you need to learn to get around off the beaten track?

Hi Megan,

Well, we've only updated the maps through where we stopped just after the Ningxia/Shaanxi border on January 8. We just created the Google Maps pages a month or so ago, and doing that required going back through all our GPS track files from the beginning of the trip (and doing a bunch of tedious file conversions), so it's taking a while to bring the maps up to date with our progress. We should get Shaanxi up in a few days, which takes us through the end of February, and after that we're hoping to be current to within a week or two by mid-April.

To answer your last question, we are currently about a day away from crossing the road that leads down to Datong. Practically on the home-stretch!

Thanks for being patient with us. When we get a bit more free time we'll update the maps, but we haven't had a lot of that recently!

Your position on the Google Earth map has been stuck in Ninxia since November! Is this supposed to be so, or is it my computer? As a result I am still guessing where you are from the journey entries.

Have you reached as ar as Datong?
