Sydney designers unplugged: people, process, product

Find out what it really takes to be a product designer! This website takes you behind the scenes and into Sydney's leading product design studios to discover how many months or even years can go into designing products you use every day. Interviews with the designers reveal the inspirations and challenges involved in bringing some familiar products from concept to reality.

This website represents a selection of the material that was presented in the Sydney designers unplugged: people, process, product exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum from 6 August – 9 October 2005. It showcases seven Sydney product design studios. These local designers create everything from toasters to trains for use in Australia and around the world. While the designers are not household names, their products almost certainly are.

Independent design consultants Nielsen Design Associates, BlueSky Creative, Design Resource, and Design+Industry are featured along with the in-house designers for Sunbeam, Electrolux and Housewares International (incorporating Breville and Alex Liddy products). These design groups were selected because they are a significant part of Sydney's industrial design scene, have created award-winning products or are represented in the Museum's collection.
