DESCRIPTION:
Glass negative, full plate, 'Australian Club', Kerry and Co, Sydney, Australia, c. 1884-1917. Silver gelatin dry plate glass negative in landscape format. The image depicts the Australian Club building in Macquarie Street, Sydney. The four-storey, Federation Classical style building dominates the image. A dirt road area is depicted in the foreground of the image. Sandstone and metal gates can be seen in front of the building across the centre of the image and two horse drawn vehicles are partially depicted near the gates. A fruit stall and a grocer can be seen in the centre right of the image. The caption, studio number and studio mark are inscribed on the reverse of the negative. The Australian Club was located in Macquarie Street, Sydney. The four-storeyed brick building was constructed in Federation Classical style and featured a slightly concaved and arched frontispiece, open verandah areas on the first and second storeys and rectangular windows. The third storey featured two windows set with two concaved projections.
