Thinkspace workshops engage all participants in a hands-on, creative learning experience, designed to enhance and extend knowledge and skills in key curriculum areas. Teachers and excursion supervisors are invited to join the collaborative learning process and take an active role in the workshop. 

Workshops are suitable for high school classes in years 7 – 12 and primary school classes in years 5 - 6.

New workshops for years 3 – 5 will be available in 2010.

2 hour workshop (max. 30 students) - $300*

Computer Studies

Whether creating a music video or planning a research project, students are introduced to working
critically and effectively in a digital environment.

Music Video

Create a music video project!
Students will compose and arrange a complete multi-track music project and also edit and assemble a video clip with rhythmic cutting and visual effects.  Students will work in several software programs and learn about using different file types, compression and digital formats in practical applications.

Web 2.0 toolkit

This workshop explores social media and online content production including blogging, wikis, podcasts, flickr and youtube in the hands-on interactive whiteboard space, and how to use these to enhance student learning.

Mapping Place, Space and Journey (GIS)

Students will work collaboratively across four interactive whiteboards and also use laptops to create a visual journey using Google Earth. A great session on maximising web-based programs to create narratives or map stories.

Online Planning and Research skills

Students will utilise the latest interactive whiteboard technology by planning a research project together. They will explore different applications and learn how to map ideas, search effectively, evaluate source material from the web and use a range of digital presentation models.

Visual Arts & Visual Design

Based on sound technical instruction, our workshops give students the chance to create and explore.

Digital Video

Students learn the basics of video editing, and create video clip using our extensive video library. Concepts covered include structure, pacing and the aesthetic considerations involved in video production.

Photoshop

Students learn the fundamentals of working with digital images in Photoshop, including layers, masks, modes, drawing and painting tools, effects, file types and output options for print and screen. This course will use Photoshop, CS3, but is also applicable to Photoshop Elements.

CD Cover

This workshop inspires visual interpretation and graphic design skills. Students design a CD cover for a fictitious group or performer using graphics, text and photos to interpret and represent the genre and style of a music album.

Music

These music workshops provide an opportunity for students to investigate musical concepts in a
professional digital production environment.

Loops & multitrack music

Creative and skills based, students select, edit and arrange short music phrases (loops) to make a personal music project. It’s an opportunity to explore musical concepts in a fun and practical way. Discover how loops are created by sampling, and their origins in hip-hop and DJ culture.

Film Composer

Students compose music to accompany a short video image sequence. The process includes consideration of elements including theme, instrumentation, mood, and dynamics. Students learn to identify and mark hit points to determine structure and shape.

Students put their hands on the world - literally - in these workshops designed to provide practical
ways of extending a student’s understanding of geographical concepts.

Students are guided through the process of creating a song from our library of loops music loops and special effects.
