The Thriller Experience
4 – 26 January
Visitors were transformed into Zombies and took to the dance floor to be part of Michael Jackson’s Thriller . With the help a choreographer the zombies learned some of the dance moves made famous in the Thriller music video. On 26 January a GIANT Thriller experience was staged, creating a mass Thriller dance. Zombies in costume recieved free admission to the Museum.

Opening night
The 80s are back opening night party celebrated music and entertainment from the decade.

Australia’s foremost proponents of synthesiser pop Pseudo Echo were joined by iconic pop rock band GANGgajang, 80s drag divas Cindy Pastel, Miss 3D and friends, including Chris Da Bonnafin (in a short Xanadu-inspired performance), and renowned DJ Stephen Ferris.

Living in the 80s: a Talks After Noon event

In this illustrated talk, Peter Cox, Powerhouse curator of The 80s are back, looked at what the development and reception of this exhibition reveals about current attitudes to the 80s. What do people value from the 80s? How does nostalgia colour our memories? What myths and stereotypes endure? What does this tell us about the past and the present?
