“Increasingly, and perhaps irreversibly, audiences will depend, even insist on each song being a full audiovisual confrontation… Video will be the way to keep time with the future”. Time magazine, 1983

First there was post-punk and new wave … then there was Madonna, Michael and MTV! The decade that began with a celebration of raw do-it-yourself indie styles also witnessed some of the slickest, biggest selling productions ever, as music became as much about the look as the sound. In the process a lot of Australian bands hit the big time at home and overseas. This section of the exhibition looks at the good, the bad and the ugly of the 80s music scene.
