In 2010 the Powerhouse Museum will be presenting a special series of events and talks to take us back to the 80s. We’ll be updating this section on a regular basis so stay tuned for fun throughout the year!
Special arrival: Michael Jackson’s Jacket & Glove!
Fans of the ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson can now get up close to items worn by the singer. Two of his most well-known fashion items, a sequined jacket and single silver glove, are currently on display in ‘The 80s are Back’ exhibition. See the sequined jacket worn by Michael Jackson during the television special ‘Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever’, when he revealed for the first time his signature dance move, the moonwalk. The ultimate 80s quiz show
12–14 June (June long weekend)
11.30 am – 12pm & 1.30 pm – 2pm
Team up with the whole family for a quiz show straight from 1981! Host Nigel Sutton will help you recall 80s songs, TV shows, celebrities and characters with enormous 80s-style hints. Free with Museum admission.
Hip Hop Weekend
26–27 June
Experience what made hip hop great in the 80s and still a vibrant culture today. Take hip hop dance lessons with ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ choreographer Tiana Canterbury, see live performances from the ‘All Conscious Crew’ (including B-boy 2ezy) and hear legendary 80s rapper Munki Muk. Part of NAIDOC Week.
