Teacher Fellowship Program
The Powerhouse Museum’s Education and Program Development Department (EPD) seeks experienced Stage 2 or 3 school teachers (at or above the Professional Competence level, prescribed by the Professional Teaching Standards of the NSW Institute of Teachers) to join the 2010 program.
This will focus on the 3-6 Science and Technology syllabus and has the following interconnected components:
- Professional learning, including the teacher residence program at the Powerhouse Museum - January 2010
- a) Development of science teaching & learning resources - submitted by end of March 2010
b) Trial of the resources at school in May and June 2010 - evaluation report submitted by end of June 2010
- a) Presenting the materials at the CONASTA Science Teachers Conference at Sydney in July 2010.
b) Work with Museum staff and have the materials published online at the Powerhouse Museum website – end of August 2010
Dates:
- Attending 5-day residence program at the Museum between 11-22 January 2010
- a) Attending 1 half-day meeting during February and March 2010
b) Attending 1 half-day meeting during May and June 2010
- a) Presenting at the CONASTA Science Teachers Conference in July 2010
b) Attending 1 half-day meeting during July and August 2010
Stipend: $1,500 (in 3 separate instalments)
Teacher Fellows will work directly with EPD staff and have the following responsibilities:
- Becoming familiar with the Museum resources – exhibitions, online collection, programs, print and online education materials.
- Identify a curriculum area that has strong links to the Museum collections, exhibitions, programs, print and online resources.
- Develop a challenging unit of work for years 3-6 Science & Technology KLA with supporting teaching and learning materials, which incorporate either a physical or virtual Museum visit.
- Develop student and course evaluation for the unit.
- Carry out trial of the materials in school.
- Modify the curriculum unit of work and its materials according to the evaluations.
- Present the materials at the 2010 CONASTA Science Teachers Conference in July 2010.
- Work with Museum staff to have the materials published online.
