Case Studies
These are studies in a case located throughout the Museum for students to examine exhibition objects up close. Exhibitions where you might find Case Studies include Inspired! Design across time, Ecologic, Boulton & Watt and Locomotive No 1 (good if you are studying machines), Musical instruments (Good vibrations will help students understand how vibration creates sound), Cyberworlds (Moving image will help students appreciate how different mechanical devices create animation) and Never done (featuring changes in home technologies and clothing). The menu of Case Studies can change daily so check on arrival and look for the black road cases with the words ‘Case Study’ on the side.

Marvellous Machines Drawing Adventure
years 3-5
returns in Term 3
The Marvellous Machines program engages years 3 to 5 in exploring, observing and understanding machines by drawing them. The drawing book guides students through some of our most engaging exhibitions including The Boulton and Watt steam engine, Steam revolution and Transport. By using various forms of drawing to observe the machines, students focus on how simple machines work, separately and in combination. Students are required to isolate the lines, shapes and forms of machines, make connections and see 'the big picture' through drawing, discussions and writing. Accompanying support materials include background notes for teachers, the Marvellous Machines Drawing Adventure powerpoint slide show CD and script. The slide show can be used by teacher as a pre-visit activity to better prepare students for the visit.
Cost: $7 per student (including a copy of the Marvellous Machines Drawing Adventure drawing book for each student)
