Games Force 2000 (volunteers)

Energy, youth and colour were keynotes of the visual theme for the Sydney 2000 Games, capturing the vitality of Sydney Harbour, the Australian landscape, the athletes and the Olympic flame. This imagery influenced the design of casual uniforms for Games Force 2000, a workforce of 80,000 paid staff and volunteers who provided essential services at the Games. When designing the Games Force uniforms, Wendy Paulucci, former textile designer at the clothing manufacturers, Bonds, imagined a casual, striking outfit complementary to Sydney?s visual theme. Her final design, entitled ?Sydney story?, combined the vibrant colour palette and ?Fluid energy? motif ? a swirling, concentric design ? that characterised the Sydney 2000 Games. More importantly still, the outfits were designed for the Sydney climate, and translated into comfortable, durable and recognisable uniforms. The Games Force uniforms in the Sydney 2000 Games Collection at the Powerhouse Museum convey not only the visual theme of the Sydney 2000 Games but also a sense of the enormous scope of Games Force 2000.
