Holden catalogue, 1961

Could a Holden look sexy? When Athol Shmith was taking the photos, yes. Holdens didn’t get fins until 1960. By then fashion and portrait photographer Shmith had done more than a decade’s work for Ford and then Holden. Shmith took most of his car photos at outdoor locations but for this 1961 shot he used studio lighting to intensify the Holden’s reflective colour and curves.
