Artist statement
‘Lace has served me well. It has enabled me to achieve my goal of ‘weaving in any direction’ to create innovative sculptural pieces of jewellery. Now, I want to give back to the lace community, to show that lace isn’t just grandmother’s tablecloth only to be taken out on special occasions. With my work I want to demonstrate that lace can not only carry on a tradition, but it can have a presence and meaning for the future.
I believe I have something to offer the lace community. My years working with metal have given me insight into the structural possibilities when combining mathematical formulae, artistic aesthetics and intuition with silver and gold wire. Lace making must continue to evolve and touch the lives and senses of modern people.’
