Artist statement

‘The ground for my artistic work is our relationship to the physical environment. This collection refers to the Renaissance painter Pieter Bruegel, who managed to create a visual connection between people and their environment. For example, between the thin hunters and the winterly landscape in The Hunters in the Snow (1565).

I like to combine crochet with assemblage and unite it with mechanical jewellery functions in silver. And to make large, three-dimensional works. There are many places on the human body where the physical experience of snow, ice and winter cold is obvious and specific. For example, it could be expressed in large shoe buckles or shapeless slippers for the feet. A piece for the chest, a shirtfront-like necklace. Something for the hair that warms the head.’
