Janet Echelman talk: a tsunami hits Sydney
Thursday 22 September 2011, 5.30pm – 7pm
American artist, Janet Echelman, one of the prize winners in the third Powerhouse Museum International Lace Award, will explain the evolution of her massive aerial sculptures that have enchanted cities such as Kyoto, Jakarta, Bombay, Venice, Madrid, Denver and New York. Her current work, Tsunami 1.26, is part of the Museum’s Love Lace exhibition and will appear for the first time in Australia from 23 September until 23 October as part of Art & About Sydney. It will be installed 13 metres above George and Park Streets. Tsunami 1.26 is a high tech netted sculpture in Spectra® fibre that will float dramatically above the city centre, enhanced by changing multicoloured lighting. Discover this spectacular, ground-breaking exhibition with a free, evening viewing for one night only! This special event celebrates the installation of a Love Lace artwork, Tsunami 1.26 by America artist Janet Echelman, high above George and Park Streets in Sydney’s CBD.
