Marraine’s Memories
Jane Theau
Dimensions
2300 x 2300 x 1500 mm (overall)
Materials
Textile installation (4): tarlatan fabric, ink, wire, machine-sewn cotton thread
Artist statement
‘My practice is increasingly focused on the brain, a development informed by previous work in neurobiology research. The flurry of neurons around the head of Marraine symbolises the memory disarray inherent in aging brains. Thread portrays so well the lifelong weaving of memories and their consequent unravelling in old age, and shadows provide a poignant reminder of memory loss.’
