High Horse Lady
Katie Salib
Dimensions
1500 x 400
Materials
hand-woven horsehair and cotton
Artist statement
‘My work takes lace, originally a delicate and ladylike structure, and transforms it into an unruly raw fabric. My work redefines lace making by using unconventional materials and experimental construction techniques.
Natural horsehair is dyed, and grouped into small bunches so it can be hand woven. Open and closed spaces are created by interweaving and knotting the horsehair. The open lace structure carefully reveals and conceals the female body. I want my creation to bring contemporary lace to the forefront of fashion.’
