Artist statement
‘My practice-based art research investigates concepts such as evolutionary development and emergent possibilities by focusing on pattern. This project aims to recreate an existing pattern, from the Powerhouse Museum collection, as an animation in the digital environment and then to interrupt, intervene and interact with the existing processes, to change the developmental path of the pattern.
The work explores the relationship between lace, mathematics and digital media and examines whether lace patterns can be created that have not been previously seen, the potential for these pattern forms to become emergent and how lace-making as an activity might be extended to include digital media and new technologies.’
