Veil: lace mantilla constructed from black quilting thread with beads and fake fingernails using freehand machine embroidery techniques
Artist statement
‘A mantilla can be worn for modesty, but it is also alluring. While it conceals and covers, the spaces reveal hints of the body beneath, triggering desire. This interplay between revelation and concealment informs my work.
Even through her veil she felt his eyes follow her looks back at its audience. It examines the intimate link between clothing and the body, and the way it links the inner private self to the outer public world.’
