Artist statement
‘My artistic vision embraces an interdisciplinary practice of art and design, where lighting technologies are combined with industrial and handmade processes to produce objects that are both decorative and functional.
I have utilised textile weaving techniques with optical fibres to create a jellyfish form constructed from an intricate volumetric array of optical fibres woven through concentric plastic rings and lit by a miniature LED light source. The visual reference to lace derives from the interaction of light with surfaces to produce a complexity of texture and pattern. A transparent sculpture by day, it transforms into a dynamic light display by night through its subtle impressions of movement.
The present work crosses the boundaries between art and design by extending the context of illumination from pure function to whimsical display.’
