The Powerhouse Museum Research Library is a reference library supporting the exhibitions, publications and programs of the Museum. It is open to the public by appointment only. Borrowing rights are restricted to employees of the Powerhouse Museum.
RESEARCH COLLECTION
The Research Library collection dates from the establishment of the Museum in 1880. The collection is diverse and reflects the changing research requirements from the past and anticipates future research needs. The Library collects to support exhibition development, publication production, education programmes, museology and corporate information needs.
The collection size can be roughly calculated at 40,000 books, 1,500 journal titles (400 current subscriptions) and a range of audio-visual and electronic resources. The value of the collection lies in its careful selection, classification and arrangement on open shelves and its development in accordance with the Museum’s focus.
