This photograph shows Di Sweeney modeling gumboots and wet weather suit from Melbourne’s Bottega boutique in a car wash in Drummond Street in Carlton, Melbourne. This was photographed by fashion photographer Bruno Benini in 1976. The following excerpt is from our publication Benini Creating the look: Benini and fashion photography.
Bruno loved working on a location, but he never drove a car, so it’s not surprising that many of his outdoor shoots were taken in close proximity to Melbourne’s CBD. Hazel recalls ‘Over the road from the studio they’d pulled this building down and it had lovely bluestone walls and all the guys used to park their motorbikes there so it was known as the ‘Outdoor Studio’. We used that many times.’ – Hazel Benini interview 2008.
