Black Rock fashion shoot

Photo Nº: 00x11077 (300K)

Tuscan-born Melbourne-based fashion photographer, Bruno Benini took this fashion shot at Black Rock, a bayside suburb of Melbourne, Victoria in 1966. It is one of several thousand fashion images in the Bruno Benini photography archive (1950-2001) that is being acquired by the Powerhouse Museum with funding assistance from the Commonwealth Government’s National Cultural Heritage Account. The photograph shows model Anne Hamilton wearing a dress created by Simona for Sportsgirl, the youth brand label and fashion outlet of Sportscraft, the iconic Australian fashion brand founded by Russian immigrant Wolf Bardas as Sportsleigh in 1914.

I did not realise that Sportscraft had a history that long.

Melbourne peeps would probably call Black Rock a “bayside” suburb rather than a seaside suburb.
