Trainspotting highly commended: steam category

This image was selected for our Trainspotting 2012 photography competition and exhibition. This photograph, taken in Jalai Nur, Nei Mongol, was highly commended for the Steam category. The photographers caption reads:
Sunrise at Jalainur washery
In winter, sunrise is straight down the tracks at the coal washery at Jalainur opencast coal mine in China. The extreme cold causes the recently loaded damp coal to steam in the wagons and even a light engine movement produces a prodigious exhaust. I was inspired to take this photo by the compelling combination of a golden sunrise and the dramatic steam effects caused by the extreme cold of a northern China winter.
