A new photo from the Powerhouse Museum every day
This is an original press portrait of the Australian swimming/diving champ and vaudeville actress Annette Kellerman. This more personal portrait shows Kellerman alongside the young diver Mary Hoerger and was taken inMiamiin 1937.
There are fewer photographs of Kellerman in her later career and in this image she is seen still wearing the one-piece swimsuit which helped create and promote to the world. She also gained an international profile as an endurance swimmer, a major headliner of the vaudeville stage and a star of American silent films. The Powerhouse Museum has a substantial collection of original Kellerman costumes and props.
