50 Mile Road Race 4/6/09 (Edworthy Cycling Archive)

This photograph comes from the Edworthy cyling archive, 1983-2006, a collection of photographs, newspaper articles, company letterheads, and business cards relating to the Edworthy Cycle & Motor Works. Edworthy Cycle & Motor Works were involved in bicycle building, selling, racing and racing promotions in Sydney for around 80 years.
The cyclists in the 50. Mile Road Race 4/6/09 look poised to start; six riders positions for action, propped up by human bike stands, their eyes on the distant horizon.
The Powerhouse Museum is currently exhibiting a small display that explores the evolution of the bicycle, from an early 1800s pedal-less hobby horse to an Australian-designed Olympic Superbike.
