Pandanus palms, Elcho Island

These pandanus palms were photographed on Elcho Island, off the coast of north-east Arnhem Land. The image was captured by Powerhouse Museum photographer Marinco Kojdanovski whilst on location gathering material for the Love Lace exhibition.
Elcho Island is the home of Mavis Warrngilna Ganambarr, one of Australia’s leading fibre artists. Mavis began weaving with her grandmother and aunties on the island, absorbing the knowledge of generations of Yolngu people. Yuta Badayala : In a newlight, by Mavis Ganambarr and Sasha Titchkosky, is a woven light shade featured in the Love Lace exhibition. The work is a collaboration between Mavis and Sydney-based furniture design company, Koskela.
