To sport themselves in the sun…
August 11th, 2012 by Kathy Hackett

This portrait of a young woman was created by David Mist for his 1969 publication, Sydney: a book of photographs. In the book the photograph appears as part of a montage showing Australians enjoying the outdoor life at the beach and on Sydney Harbour.
The young woman gazing intently out of the frame appears unaware of the camera. She and her companions are isolated from their context by the use of a shallow depth of field with only the sunlight on their hair and their casual clothing suggesting an outdoor location.
