Fort Denison

94/63/127/17 Glass negative, quarter plate, Fort Denison, Tom Lennon, Sydney, Australia, 1934?

This unusual view of Sydney Harbour’s sandstone landmark, Fort Denison,  is from the Tom Lennon Photographic Archive Collection. The photograph appears to have been taken from on board a large ship. Zooming in (see below) reveals a person in one of the  doorways looking up at the camera. Lennon took some photographs on board cruise ships as part of his work for Australian Music Maker and Dance Band News. Some of these photographs have been posted previously on Photo of the Day.

Tom T. Lennon was a commercial photographer whose studio was at 64 Victoria Road, Drummoyne. The 1796 negatives in the Powerhouse Museum Tom Lennon archive include images of balls and dinners held in Sydney, weddings, funerals, work events, parties, portraits, pets, fashion, horse races, musicians, dance bands and various places and events 1927-1949. Many images from the Tom Lennon archive have been posted previously on Photo of the Day.
