Spirit of jang-in exhibition now open

We have just opened a new exhibition, Spirit of jang-in: treasures of Korean metalcraft that showcases national treasures from Korea in gold, silver and bronze, together with contemporary works feature in this exhibition. This photograph was taken during a weekend series of events to celebrate Korean culture in which performances by Korean artists were held at the museum.
The Korean word jang-in means ‘artisan’, ‘craftsman’ or ‘master’. In Korea, people who devoted themselves to a particular profession throughout their lives, or who mastered a particular craft skill, were called jang-in. They believed in setting high moral standards and considered their works to be their ‘other-self’ because they embodied the passion, soul and dedication of the maker
