photos and stories from the Powerhouse Museum
This photograph was taken by one of the highly commended winners from our Trainspotting photography competition that will now be featured in the exhibition we will be holding later in the year. The photographer’s caption on Flickr reads:
Black Canyon, Part II
If Black Canyon is merely amazing in daylight, then it’s downright dramatic under a full moon. In this two-minute, fifteen-second exposure, westbound trains on CN (left) and CP race each other along the Thompson River, their headlights playing off the canyon walls and river’s rough surface. The red glow on the CP train is the westbound home signal at Black Canyon, while the CN train’s passage clearly shows off truss details on the Thompson River bridge. Of course, the CN train would win this race as it stayed on home rails at the beginning of co-production at Coho/Nepa. Photo from private property taken with permission.
