This photograph by Powerhouse Museum photographer Marinco Kojdanovski captures the jazzy entry experience of the Creating the look: Benini and fashion photography exhibition now showing at the Museum. Visitor’s last chance to see the exhibition will be Monday 18 April 2011 as dismantling begins on 19 April. The bold typeface which was commissioned to signpost the exhibition, was also used on the exhibition book, in publicity and as a masthead or banner for the exhibition website. A one off design, it was created especially for the exhibition by Deuce Design, a small inner-city multi-disciplinary design studio to signal the photographic emphasis of the exhibition.
Bruce Slorach, Director of Deuce Design, sums up the driving concept behind this striking design:
We created the bespoke typeface specifically to reflect both the technicality and artistry of fashion photography. The exhibition design plays on the idea of a film role weaving through the space with long strips of images wrapping around the internal spaces. The typeface and the graphic elements of the exhibition interplay with each other, from the sprocket-inspired film notches to the large graphic elements on the ground plane.
