On the beach

This photograph of fashion model Jenny Edwards was created by David Mist in 1969 and published in the book he produced with Len Evans, Made in Australia. The book was a collection of portraits of Australian women ‘trendsetters’.

Jenny Edwards, whose colour portrait appears on the cover of the publication, is shown in this photograph on a beach outside Perth as the sun goes down over the Indian Ocean.

The unusual inverted point of veiw and the wide angle lense are both characteristic of the experimental approach that many photographers were taking to their subjects at this time. Long shadows, sea shells and even her hair radiate outwards from model, integrating her figure with the background of the sand.
