Significance statement
This guidebook, 'The Western Hills of Peking' contains a map of the region folded up in the inside pocket. Hedda Hammer (Morrison) purchased it shortly after she arrived in China in 1933. She took it with her on photographic trips to the many temples, cultural and scenic sites that lay within a short distance of the city. Handwritten notes plot Hedda's routes and overnight stays during her trip to the 'lost tribe' country in July 1936.
