You may wish to leave significant items or funds to The Powerhouse Foundation or to the Museum directly in your Will. In some cases, the federal government also offers taxation benefits to your Estate or to you during your lifetime.
The Powerhouse Museum recommends that you discuss your gift plans with your own legal or financial advisers. Members of the Powerhouse Museum's staff will be happy to work with you and your advisers to ensure that your gift meets your goals and the Museum's needs.
We suggest the following wording for a simple gift in a Will:
“I, _________________________________
give, devise and bequeath ______ for the purposes of supporting the Powerhouse Museum collection in the area of _______________ and associated areas to the Trustees of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences for the purpose of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Act, 1945, as amended, and I declare that the receipt of the Director or Accountant/ or other proper officer of the Museum of Applied Arts and Science shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustee(s) for the said gift, devise or bequest and that my trustee(s) shall not be bound to see to the application thereof.”

The story of one bequest…
In 1994, the Powerhouse Museum became the recipient of a substantial monetary gift from the will of the late Mrs Yasuko Myer. Mrs Myer and her husband Ken were generous supporters of the Museum’s collection since 1988, donating funds to acquire selected pieces of Asian decorative arts and contemporary Australian jewellery.
The Museum has taken great care in investing the Myer bequest so that the interest from the funds provides an ongoing means of supporting the collection areas that were particular favourites of Mrs Myer.
The Myer bequest provides an ongoing legacy, allowing the objects most valued by Yasuko Myer to be collected, preserved and appreciated by visitors to the Powerhouse Museum.
