Improving Life – The design of Swedish innovations describes how ideas are developed into innovations by means of design.

The exhibition showcases more than 60 Swedish-designed products, some well known and some not, some old and some contemporary. From simple ingenious objects such as an adjustable wrench to advanced medical technology like the pacemaker the exhibition demonstrates the breadth of Swedish design and innovation. Familiar consumer products with their origins in Sweden include the Trilobite automatic vacuum cleaner, BabyBjorn baby carrier and automatic lawnmower – all innovations which have made our lives easier. Many of the innovations featured in the exhibition are now found around the world.

Improving Life defines an innovation as an invention or further development of a concept that has achieved commercial success. The exhibition presents innovations that are developed to satisfy our needs, to make our life simpler, or improve our society.

In a globalised world with an almost overwhelming flood of products and services design is a crucial factor in the development process and designers are involved from the concept stage to the finished product. Improving Life showcases innovative products from a range of companies including, Volvo Cars, SonyEricsson, Bahco, DeCell, Dignitana, Neonode, Perific, Baby Björn, Tetra Pak, Electrolux, Jolife, and Husqvarna.

Improving Life – The design of Swedish innovations is a key exhibition in the Sydney Design 07 program.
