EcoLogic: creating a sustainable future
A new permanent exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum, EcoLogic provides a framework to consider information about social, economic and environmental issues. Sustainable development is a key strategy for moving Australia towards a better future. The exhibition covers key problems in urban, rural and coastal environments and presents solution-based case studies. With its focus on contemporary issues, EcoLogic is designed to provoke discussion and debate cornerstones of active citizenship. This exhibition gives students a context for both analysing current problems and formulating their own solutions. EcoLogic is proudly sponsored by Holden.

Solar Sailor
Solar Sailor is the world’s first marine vessel to be powered by a combination of sun and wind. The first Solar Sailor was built and designed in Australia, receiving a grant from the Australian Greenhouse Office for its renewable energy technology. The vessel’s ‘solar wing’ technology delivers significant economic and environmental benefits and is set to revolutionise water transport. The vessel has four sources of power: solar, wind, battery and a back-up LPG gas generator. Solar Sailor produces no pollution under all operation modes, and has low wash, minimal noise and low fumes. It has a service speed of 5 knots on solar power alone, and 10-12 knots on LPG. Solar Sailor won the Australian Design Award of the Year 2001 – Engineering.
