Althorp: the Spencer Family and the Collection Bruce Bailey, Althorp Archivist Discover the story of the Spencer family - including the present Earl Spencer and his sister, Diana Princess of Wales - from their acquisition of the Althorp Estate in 1508 to their rise in the peerage to become Earls of Sunderland. In this one-off illustrated talk Bruce Bailey, Archivist to the Spencer Estate for nearly twenty years, will reveal the various events that saw the transformation of the Tudor house into a Baroque Palace and will share the family story through images from their famous collection of furniture and paintings, including fine examples of Lely, Van Dyck, Reynolds and Gainsborough.

Looking at Diana

More than a decade after her death, Diana Princess of Wales is still public property due to the long-running inquest into her death in a car crash in Paris. Her life and death have been raked over yet again by the 250 witnesses and their incredible stories. In this talk Diana Simmonds will examine the impact of the inquest. Has she has been as cruelly treated in death as she was in life? Are we any closer to knowing "the truth”?
