Early Cycle Racing in Australia - Hirst Preddy Collection
These objects all relate to racing cycling in Australia. Hirst cycling shoes were the chosen make for Sydney racing cyclists during the 1930s and 1940s. The shoes along with other items were purchased at auction from the collection of Mr Jack Hepher who competed six times in the famous Goulburn to Sydney race. The cycling gloves belonged to Phillip Preddy who according to Mr Hepher rode with the Eastern Suburbs club before the Second World War and with the Camden Club after 1945.
