Object statement
Packaged tea (2 boxes) and leaflet, paper / cardboard, made by Griffiths Bros, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 1939-1945
This tea and leaflet were made by Griffiths Bros, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in the early 1940s.
Packaged tea stored in the donors home and purchased to send overseas to provide a supply of tea in case rationing came into force (from acquisition form).

Griffith Bros were well-known tea merchants in Melbourne. In 1900 they opened their store and sales room for teas, coffee and cocoas was located at 26 Flinders Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. By the mid 1940's, the Griffiths building was leased to Verona Press and became a printing headquarters. From 1973-1988 the Griffith Bros building was used as the Melbourne billiard and snooker-playing establishment. Leased by Dolly Lindrum and her husband, Lindrum's Billiard Centre was partly named after her famous uncle, Walter Lindrum (1896-1960) but predominantly for a family that had produced over four generations of billiard champions and snooker players. The building is now home to 'Hotel Lindum', which displays items from Griffith Bros' occupation in memory of its history.
