Object statement
Poster, 'Volleyball', paper, designed by Ing Design, designed by Ing Design, creative direction by David Terrazas and design by Chris Searle of Ing Design, illustration by Janet Jones, for Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG), Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, 2000
This poster is one of a suite of eight sport posters produced for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. They were commissioned by the Sydney Organising Committee for Olympic Games. The series formed a vital part of the designed 'look' of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and with the tickets for the Games (also designed by Ing Design), they reaffirm the 'bluewater' theme (in contrast to the proposed 'green games' theme) that became central to the 'look' of the Sydney 2000 Games. The posters in this series were originally presented to SOCOG in an earth/ochre colour who recommended the earth tones be replaced with a deep blue in keeping with the blue theme of the Games. On the reverse of each sports poster is printed a list of acknowledgments to the individuals and firms who generously sponsored the production of the sports poster series.
