If all our collection was online, you could access it anywhere in the world. It would open up the Powerhouse Museum to everyone, 24 hours a day. As you can imagine, with over 380,000 collection objects, getting everything online is a time-consuming and intensive task. Your donation can help put more objects online for research, education and enjoyment.

Build the Collection Endowment Fund which delivers us $70,000 a year to acquire new objects. The bigger the fund, the greater the Collection will become.
Acquire specific objects spanning history, science, technology, design, transport, decorative arts and more.

Gascoigne and Vinvanthan used the polarimeter for thesis work on the 50 inch telescope at Mount Stromlo Observatory (information taken from the blue file).

(-1) Lacquered wooden box, marked "Polarimeter" and handwritten label "Handle with extreme care/ Do not bump/ Delicate scientific instrument."
(-2) Polarimeter: metal cylinder on flat base, attached with four bolts. Controls on top reading "aperture", black plastic dial with numbers 1-5 and "Aperture/Illumination"; "Record/ Heating/ Increase".
(-3) Metal plate, bulging at middle and tapered at each end, with slotted ends and a central hole.
(-4) Metal plate with slotted ends and centrally fixed eyepiece marked "Ramsden/ X7/ PTI".
(-5) Blueprint technical drawing of polarimeter, including plan and elevation.
(-6) Envelope containing spare globe.
