Annan Fabrics, an important Australian textile design company, was established in 1941 by Alexandra Mackenzie and Ann Outlaw and the business thrived for fourteen years. The Powerhouse has an extensive collection of textiles and the archive from this company. This fabric sample is a screenprinted cotton, 'Emu', that appears frequently in the photographs held in the archive but until now the Museum did not have a sample length.

Made by Alexandra Mackenzie and Anne Outlaw of Annan Fabrics, who were two of the first silk screen printers in Sydney in the nineteen forties.

This sample was made in about 1945-1950.

This sample comes from curtains that Gloria Bishop, wife of the donor, purchased for her home.
