Figure, 'Shy Girl', earthernware, T G and A G Bosley, South Australia, 1930-1940.
Large standing figure of a shy young girl, earthenware, press-moulded. The curly haired child depicted wearing a simple party dress and standing with bare feet set close together on a stepped base (a rocky column rises from the base behind the girl's legs to support the figure). She looks downward with head angled demurely to one side in a pose which suggests shyness, pushing her belly forward and gripping the sides of her dress at the hem, stretching it tightly.Featuring a polychrome lead glaze with base green and brown and the girl in pale yellow, the dress, the ribbon in her hair and eyes glazed dark blue, flat underside with a small opening into the hollow body cavity.
