Bread crock, earthenware, Bennett Pottery, South Australia, 1920-1930.
Bread crock, with cover, wheel-thrown, two gallons capacity. Flat base and steep rounded sides rising to a thick lip encircling the wide mouth, two bands of distinctive coggle impressed decoration (chain link) encircle the upper body. Circular cover features a rope-twist handle set in a central indentation, two pierced air vents, two coggle bands and a narrow near flat ledge which extends slightly past the crock rim, the underside with a short vertical flange. Crock and cover exterior surfaces glazed with a deep green glaze, interior surfaces caneware glazed. Crock underside and cover underside rim unglazed.
